Alex Mckechnie is a performer and teacher in Vancouver. He received his Bachelor of Music in Jazz Studies from Capilano College in 1997. He then spent five years working on cruise ships becoming a Music Director for Crystal Cruises. During his cruise ship career Alex attended the Drummer’s Collective in New York where he studied with Ian Froman, Kim Plainfield, Frank Katz and Memo Acevedo.

In 2003 he returned to Vancouver where he performs throughout the lower mainland. In addition to performing, Alex also provides private instruction.

Alex is the author of Styles and Indpendence for the Developing Drummer and leads two of his own projects: The Alex McKechnie Trio and Plan 9.
